By the late 19th century, thanks to successful mining in the San Juan Mountains, southwestern Colorado needed a real town. The Denver & Rio Grande Railway chose the site of present-day Durango, on the banks of the Animas River, to build its depot. The railroad officially made its way into the Animas Valley in August 1881 and folks like us started to flock to the area to enjoy outdoor adventures and lovely fall colors.
It’s OUR turn to beat the heat in Florida and be amazed by the quaking Aspen, breathtaking mountain views, and the rich old west history. We’ll be based at the condos at Purgatory Village and use rental vehicles to venture out for our daily sightseeing and activities. Not only does Durango have history it has some great restaurants and shops downtown.
We’ll enjoy a leisurely trip on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad which is still completely coal-fired and steam-operated, visit Mesa Verde National Park, conquer the Inferno Mountain Coaster, and spend some time on the water at Twilight Lake. There will be some hiking, a hot spring visit, and the opportunity to zipline or tour the backcountry by jeep.
LODGING: 5 nights at the Purgatory Resort, condo units with bathrooms for each room and comfortable kitchen, dining, and living rooms. There are hot tubs and a great outdoor pool with mountain views.

CANCELLATION POLICY: All cancellations must be received by Orlando Ski and Travel Club in writing. No penalty if cancellation received prior to July 7, 2021; $100 per person cancellation fee if cancellation is received after July 7, & prior to July 28, 2021. No refunds after July 28, 2021.
