| | | President's Message Orlando Ski and Adventure Travel Club members and potential new members! For those who traveled on our 2022-2023 Ski Trips this season, it has been reported that you noticed some exciting new trip participant energy on each of our ski trips. Our newest club members have been a great addition to our fun and socializing! We are hoping for the same new energy as we launch 2 new Adventure trips (non-ski) over the next month. That’s why this upcoming Membership Drive Picnic is so important to all of us and the future of our wonderful club. All of us can help build our club to its best potential by inviting our friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Wekiva Island Membership Drive Picnic (in Longwood) – Sunday May 7, 2023 starting at 9am. Our 2024 Ski Trips will be first previewed at the Wekiva event on May 7th and this day is also your first opportunity to sign up for the Lake Louisa Cabin Party Weekend III in Clermont, Florida (will be held Oct 13-15th, 2023) as that event is expected to sell out quickly. The themed parties and dancing were outstanding last October! May 7th will also be the signup launch date of a Springtime River Cruise sailing through the Great Rivers of Europe departing early May 2024. It is an All-Inclusive River Cruise departing from Amsterdam and disembarking in Vienna. Pre and post extensions available in Belgium, Vienna, and Prague! I’ll be your fearless leader throughout Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Official Ski Trip signups will take place online on our club website starting the last week of May. Keep an eye out for an email notification regarding that launch. I hope you are excited to learn how you can receive an additional $250 discount toward your trip sign-up for this coming year. Just the previous week, he and son, Alan, spent a wonderful two weeks with OSTC in Chamonix, France where he skied every day and joined the night life daily. He returned home to Briggs, ID where he skied several more days at Grand Targhee, including Tuesday before passing Weds.
Roy was a brilliant scientist with much acclaim to his name. He could knowledgably discuss ANY topic. He was a world traveler, including participating with OSTC’s annual international ski trip for over 25 years (often bringing his sons Jason & Alan), plus our Peru trip this past May (with wife Sandy) and numerous domestic trips. Along with his smarts and extreme ski talent, he had a funny side to him too. One example is last January at an FSC themed party, he came dressed as Tiger King and Sandy, came as the Tiger. Roy was an extreme skier, he skied on and off piste, no slope intimidated him. He and his best friend and longtime OSTC ski partner, Jim Johnson, challenged many mountains together and WON every time! Roy could be gruff, yet he was really a Teddy Bear. A personal fond memory is in Whistler, two of us intermediate skiers wanted to ski the back side; yet it seemed intimidating to us. Roy encouraged us, he even volunteered to go with us to make sure we’d be safe. It was a ski run of a lifetime for us! Roy was an institution with our club, a legend! He supported our Club in many ways including past service on the Board, hosting Happy Hour for our Club at his personal residence on a Jackson Hole trip and with his financial support of trip participation. I always thought of Roy as invincible, so this is hard to accept, I am personally heartbroken. | | | Save the date!
