President's Message Hello OSTC Club members! We had 3 different OSTC trips during the Month of March: Steamboat Colorado, Switzerland and Jackson Hole, Wyoming! We experienced some challenges regarding Airlines/Weather and Covid/Airline travel requirements on 2 of these trips, however, for most of our participants these were great group getaway/vacations full of laughs and a ton of good memories. Let’s get together on April 13th and relive a few of these nice moments with our fellow club members through telling others our great stories and sharing a few photos. Biggest Post Trip Celebration Event Wednesday April 13th from 6-8pm - our first time specially planned “Post Ski-Trip Celebration Event.” It will be held at the Hangry Bison in Winter Park which is located in Winter Park Village across the street from the movie theatre. This new social gathering will take the place of our normal March and April Monthly Socials. The club will be providing some tasty food items and your 1st celebration drink for ski season ending. That’s for all attendees including your invited guests. Feel free to invite someone you know that may be interested in participating in the fun and good times we have in our club. We are expecting a large turnout, so please RSVP HERE on our Meetup page for the Post Ski Trip Celebration Event! Additionally, we will be simultaneously holding the OSTC Board elections/voting at this event. Your Club Board is made up of all volunteers. Those volunteers who are in positions that are up for reelection have stated that they all will be running for a second term. Go to the Ballot link HERE. Additionally, nominations from the floor will be accepted at this April General Membership Meeting. Your vote is important and you must attend the meeting to vote. Our officers ultimately help provide the direction of our club. If you have not renewed your membership, now is the time. You must be a current paid member to vote. See you very soon on April 13th and hopefully on April 23rd as well!

Time for one of our favorite parts of our monthly newsletter: The OSTC Member Highlight! Each month we feature a OSTC member to get to know one another better! Member highlights are nominated and voted on by the OSTC board, then that member will get the same set of Q&As! Read on for Kenny's answers: How did you get exposed to travel and adventuring, what brought you to our club? My name is Dr Kenny Krumins and I have been a member of OTSC for many years. I am a retired orthopedic knee surgeon who took care of the University of Central Florida for many years. I joined the club in search of meeting ski partners to enjoy great skiing in crazy places like trees and steeps. I often skied alone and I found myself skiing difficult terrain and often thought - what the heck am I doing here and how did I get here?? Meeting good friends like Jeff Zar, Mike Piatek, Erich the Austrian ski master, Gunther, and Steve Clark have made skiing way more fun and way safer. In numbers, we have pushed one another to try tougher ski spots and we help each other get through it together.
What is your favorite OSTC memory? My favorite OSTC memory was joining the downhill vertical feet challenge in Batchelor mountain Oregon. I never knew people counted vertical feet of skied terrain and I learned a lot about endurance skiing. I was 3 months postop after a left total hip replacement and it was amazing to ski that long of a day with minimal soreness in my hip! I ended up with 57,000 vertical ft that day and I was hooked on tracking vertical feet. Gunther and I have since broken that record skiing together a LONG day in Sun Valley, Idaho in December 2021. We ended up with 68,881 feet skied and for the first time, I was very tired and slept in the following day til 10 am and took a lay day as well!! Gunther and I had a blast skiing all day with no breaks.
Where is your favorite place to travel to and if you could create your own trip, what would it be? My favorite ski mountains would have to be Sun Valley, Idaho for the long groomers, especially the one with 3,200 vertical. The town is awesome as well. The best tree skiing mountain has to be Steamboat Springs Colorado- it's simply amazing. The steepest most challenging mountains is a 3 way tie between Taos NM, Telluride CO, and of course Jackson Hole Wyoming. Jackson hole wins the tie break for the incredible downtown square and the outlying beautiful wildlife tours that are spectacular.
If I could create my own ski trip I would do a combo trip including Jackson Hole, Wyoming half the week - a midweek snowmobile tour thru Yellowstone and then Big Sky, Montana for the last 3 days of skiing. I have done that combo with the family several years back , best trip ever!!
Hobbies, talents and interests outside of traveling: My hobbies include endurance long mileage road biking, downhill skiing, and offshore marlin fishing. Marlin fishing is my passion. I spend lots of time offshore of Los Suenos, Costa Rica targeting blue marlin and sailfish. I also spend time fishing North of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico at Magdalena Bay for striped marlin. My dream catch is a grander blue marlin (over 1000 pounds) my largest caught so far is 468 lb blue marlin caught offshore of New Jersey. I have a trip scheduled for Cape Verde, off western coast of Africa in early April, 2022 for my first real attempt at a grander blue marlin!
Fun fact no one knows about you: A fun fact that nobody in OTSC knows about me is I recently decided to become a boat captain so I completed all the requirements and I just recently got my 100 ton license. It's a formality but now I made it official, I can legally take clients on charters and I can deliver boats anywhere throughout the United States! Oh, I almost forgot - I'm a die hard Eagles fan and I was born and raised in Philadelphia . I have attended both Super Bowls that my beloved Eagles competed in. One win and one loss - both against Tom Brady and his Patriots.
