Hello
| | | PRESIDENTS MESSAGE OSTC President’s Message July 1, 2020 July is typically the month families and friends gather to celebrate Independence Day. Unfortunately, with the pandemic, Orlando Ski & Travel Club gatherings have been temporarily postponed and now made virtual. We had our By-Laws changed via a Zoom meeting with membership. This paved the way for virtual elections online. We then held the election on Wild Apricot after the ballots were emailed to all current members. The elections committee confirmed these results for our 2020-21 OSTC Board as follows: · President: Rhonda Ulmer · 1st VP: Steve Clark · 2nd VP: Amy McClurg · Secretary: Cyndy Valence · Treasurer: Jackie Warren Please welcome your Board for the coming year!!! Meanwhile our Committees are working away…The OSTC by-laws require that a Financial Review Committee develop a proposed budget and bring forth recommendations to the Board who will review for approval at this month’s meeting. The Travel Committee will be meeting in August to discuss any new possibilities for upcoming and proposed trips for ski and adventure travel. We are optimistic that there will be some additional opportunities for new safe domestic travel destinations. Be sure to surf www.orlandoskiclub.com for current and future trips as well as changes and updates. We currently have the Tennessee rafting trip upcoming soon—it’s your last chance to sign up for leaving town for some refreshing clear mountain water and nature with all activities and planning taken care of in a “turn key” trip to the Appalachian Mountain Range leaving later this month, followed by FSC Telluride in January, and the return to FSC Zermatt in March. Until next month, hope you have a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!!! Respectfully submitted,

Peru has been rescheduled to May 2021 Christmas Market Along the Rhine - Rescheduled to 2021 | | | BOARD MEMBER FEATURE A Brief History on Dale Ulmer…. Oh my, well…I was born in Pennsylvania, but my parents wanted to move south for warmer weather. I tagged along first to East Tennessee, then South Georgia. That alone made me love travelling and so fond of the mountains I wanted to return to. So much so that I hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. I also liked designing and building things, so I returned to University of Tennessee to study architecture there and studied abroad in London. Besides, UT was next to Smokey Mountain National Park and I could hike and learn to ski over in Gatlinburg!!! They had a special back in the 70’s…RT bus from campus to ski slopes, ski rentals, lift ticket, and a keg of beer in the back of the bus for $20. Who wouldn’t want to ski!!!!! Anyway, I was hooked on skiing and made one Spring break trip to Steamboat by car…dedicated, eh? After college, I lived in Atlanta for 10 years before wanting to live in a smaller city to escape the congestion. I moved to Orlando in 1990 and found our ski club. I did a lot of year-round activities at first and met a lot of people. The fun really took off when I began skiing with the club…my first ski trip was with Laurie and Jake Vest to Whistler which was fantastic—I learned so much and will always be grateful. Laurie wanted me to get more involved so I volunteered and got elected into being a 2nd VP (hard to believe as I was never electable for anything). What I didn’t know was that led me next into 1st VP, then President, and meeting TONS of new people and making LOTS of new friends along the way. If you’ve been on an OSTC trip with me, whether its been snow skiing or being a pirate on a Maine windjammer, that there is almost always something going on for get-togethers and fun. Gala awards for our Friday evening parties where teams had gathered for the Amazing Ski Races hold great memories for me. I have waaaay too much info on all of you, hahaha. Its all about the memories, having fun, meeting new people, and great lies about cliffs we skied off with old friends. The fun really never stops.
