President's Message

By: Kathryn Hardage

Another fabulous ski season has wrapped up for Orlando Ski and Travel Club, now it’s time for some summer fun in Montana! Only 6 spaces open, act now.

OSTC had a great season, taking over 200 persons on five domestic and one International ski trips. Since our last newsletter Park City, Telluride and Cortina, Italy trips have returned, all with stories of vertical feet skied, vw size moguls conquered and opportunities of skiing deep powder! Those on the Italy trip can brag about skiing 49 miles on one of a kind in the world ski tours and, verses poling flat terrain, being pulled across by horses! Tons of fun times on all the trips!

This is my next to last President’s message, as my term will be complete May 31st. I am making this message my

CALL TO ACTION

message.

Do you enjoy your Orlando Ski and Travel Club planned ski trips? Adventure trips? Monthly Socials? White water rafting in NC and Montana? Bio-luminescence kayaking tours? Christmas bicycle ride in downtown Orlando? Jazz concerts in the Garden?

Do you want these to continue?

To do so, we need YOU!

It’s YOUR club and 100% volunteer operated from the Board of Directors, to the Travel Committee to the Travel Trips and Local Events Leaders.

Most of us currently at the helm have been donating our time for many years, some over 20 years, we’re rolling off. To continue, the club needs new blood, new ideas and new leadership!

Here’s some ways you can get involved:

  • ·Pick your favorite watering hole for a local Happy Hour
  • Lead a local bike ride thru 5 Cities starting at Mead Gardens on Sat May 4th
  • Lead a local trip up to Lakeridge Winery for one of their Saturday outdoor music festivals
  • Lead a kayak/canoe trip on Wekiva River
  • Lead ANY KIND of local event of your choosing

All of the above are EASY one-time (or can repeat if you wish) events which require minimal time commitment; yet, offer comradery and fun for all. Put a brief flier together (copy a picture of the venue from their website, add a date & time) and say meet me here!

Send flier to VP of

Year-Round Activities

who will get it posted on our website & set up a Meet-up on your behalf.

Longer term Club needs:

  • Submit Officer Application for Secretary of the Board (2 term commitment).
  • Recorder provided, requires attendance at 4-6 Board Meetings annually & prepare typed record of meeting high-lights & actions/votes taken by the Board.
  • Submit Director Application for positions to be appointed by the Incoming President. Go to

  • Submit application to become an Assistant Trip Leader (training opportunity with less time commitment and some possible benefits)

PLEASE volunteer, the club cannot survive otherwise! YOUR clubs future is depending on YOU!

LAST MONTHS HAPPENINGS

OSTC Trip to

Park City

OSTC had a fun-loving group head to Park City, Utah, in February to join nine other clubs from the Florida Ski Council in a great Utah ski week. Most of the OSTC group enjoyed ski in/out access to Park City, which now includes Canyons, as well as a day or two (or three) at the Deer Valley resort. The gang had apres in our condo, apres in town with all the FSC clubs, a lively FSC dance party Monday evening and a 60s throwback FSC costume party on Thursday evening. The OSTC costumes were awesome!

We ended our week with a “clean out the refrigerator” party at our lodging property, replete with added pizza, beer and wine…wine…wine!  There were also a few awards for some hilarious “incidents” during the week that made for some great storytelling. Be sure to ask Steve Adamission about his ski pants issue on the lift!

Looking forward to next season and traveling with the wonderful members of the Orlando Ski and Travel Club.

OSTC Trip to Telluride

By Dan Davis, Trip Leader, and Mike Beckman, Volunteer Asst. Trip Leader

52” inches of fresh powder usually makes for a good ski trip, but that is not the best part of this trip.  36 fun and enthusiastic PEOPLE/Skiers came together and enjoyed the incredible snow, mountain, food, scenery, historic town, and après ski of Telluride to make this trip one for the ages!  Some people say, “happiness is not real unless shared.” This rings true in most cases but the trip to Telluride really epitomizes this notion.  The excellent skiers (newbies and super strong diehards) enjoyed the powder, made new ski-buddy friends, rode up the lifts with celebrities (“Dexter” from HBO series of same name), skied hard and wrapped things up daily with great après ski scenes to talk about this awesome run or that awesome run!  Other great memories for the Telluride 2019 trip “yearbook”:

·       No injuries!

·       Best après ski location in Colorado – Gorrono Ranch bar/cabin on the mountain!  Every day at 3:00 pm to give thanks (and a shot)!

·       The “No-stop Gang” (Todd, Jim, Carolyn, Al, Roger, and Dan)

·       The “Water Hazard Gang” – The inseparable Bywaters, Haggards, and Morgans!

·       The day before leaving…..HELP! someone took my bathrobe and license at the hot tub! Oops, sorry, my license was in my shoe.

·       Apparently, there is no age ceiling for going down a Telluride double black diamond run.  Just watch 74 yr. old Roger!

Thank you for a FANTASTIC time. You all made the trip a BLAST.

Cheers to us Team Telluride!  Dan
