MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Hi, OSTC members, I am David
Miller, and I'm presently your Florida Ski Council Delegate.. A
little about myself and how I became a SKIER.. My age doesn't matter,
let us just say I'm a mature adult male.. Single
and retired... After my upbringing in W.Va. I served in the
USAF for 6 yrs, which is where I eventually learned to ski.**
In Alaska.** we'll say the early 60's.. and after getting some
of the basics down the Air Force and I decided we should part
company. So I came to Orlando Fl. due to my parents having
moved here while I was in the service. It
turned out that there was no where to ski in Florida except in the
water and the few times I did, well that did not turn out
well.. I eventually secured a job in law enforcement, a local
dept, Winter Park Police Dept. In the time I was with the
Dept, I had rediscovered skiing when I found the Orlando Ski Club,,
Well things had changed a little in the skiing world but not much...
So after a lot of lessons I felt I had my ski legs back .And my
wife at the time (just married) and I had our Honeymoon with
the very first Florida Ski Council trip with the OSC to Copper
Mountain Club Med.. That was in 1984. The OSC was a Charter
member in the Florida Ski Council... In another couple of years I
became President of the OSC.. The Club was growing with a lot
of enthusiasm and leadership in every office and board position.. In
1988 I became an officer in the Florida Ski
Council and served the FSC
for 4 years: 2 years Treasurer and 2 years as
2nd Vice President..
By this time I was a Deputy
Sheriff with Orange County Sheriffs Office .. I continued serving on
the board of the OSC in various positions, where ever I could help
the club. The Club was doing great with younger leadership
keeping up with the times, Yes the computer age was upon us and we
(The OSC) had to change with the times. In the years
since the late 90's I have also volunteered to be the Race Captain
for the club on the January Florida Ski Council Trip of each year ..
After many years and many 2nd and third place finishes The Orlando
Ski Club finally won the Florida Ski Council Race Cup in 2018
and then guess what,, YEP !! we won it again in 2019.. And we are
going for a threepeat in 2020 in Snowmass.. Hope to see You on
the Slopes....
