Come join us at Winter Park Ale House on Tuesday, February 13th for our monthly Social, at which time we’ll honor our Orlando Race Team with a parade! We need WILDLY cheering fans to be along the parade route (okay, so it’ll be a small parade thru special treats! House but a parade non-the-less)! We’ll have an enhanced buffet and other special treats!
OSTC has a few local industry partners with whom we have a mutually beneficial relationship. I feel, it is important to say Thank You to these businesses who offer benefits to our Members.
Thus, I wish to thank Winter Club Ski for providing a Group rate for two sessions of training our racers for Steamboat. They all felt it helped them be better prepared, resulting in Orlando having the fastest team! Private lessons are available to anyone from beginner to extreme, right here in our own community!
Next, thanks to Park, Bark & Fly for continuing to offer $5 per day discounted off-site parking to club members. For our 6:00 a.m. Steamboat flight they even reserved a designed row just for OSTC! This helped our members park more quickly, then received expedited transport to the airport!
Another partner, new to the area, is REI in Winter Park. They are having a “Garage Sale” on Saturday, Feb 10th from 9:00 a.m to 3 p.m. Discounted merchandise, check it out..
Peter Glenn continues to support OSTC with generous merchandise donations for our annual Trip Kick Off event. The club purchases some gift cards from them and they donate additional ones. Check them out for your ski wear & equipment needs!
The Club, nor its Board, endorses nor receives financial compensation from these vendors.
OSTC’s Heavenly trip is the next to depart, this Saturday! Wishing each of you fresh powder, sunshine by day and lots of fun!
Again, we need BIG CROWDS to cheer for our race team at the OSTC Social Tuesday, February 13th (change of week day for this month only)!!! Come help us celebrate!
Kathryn
Proud President of the Club with the GOLD Race Team!
53 Club Members traveled to Steamboat Springs Colorado for the January Florida Ski Council Trip. We enjoyed skiing the fresh Champagne Powder, Snow Shoeing, Tubing, The Snow Coaster and Strawberry Hot Springs. At Casino Nite many of us took to the tables for Charity raising money for STARS – Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports.
We ate fabulous food and had a great night at Mountain Tap Brewery enjoying gourmet pizzas and craft brews. We all had a wild time spotting the wild life on the slopes. Many of us got to see several Moose that reside at the resort. Some of us got to see them a little too closely. I hear one traveler from another club got to see a Moose charging directly towards him.
This could have been called the Heavy Metal tour of Colorado. Why? Because the Orlando Ski and Travel Club was full of bling on the flight home.
Our club members won:
2 NASTAR Gold Medals awarded to Jeff Szarzanowitz and Todd Bauerle,
5 NASTAR Silver Medals going to Zbigniew Stiko, Debbie Ashworth, Carolyn McMillin, Meloni Turk, and our Race Captain David Miller,
2 NASTAR Bronze Medals to Stevo Sovich and Kimberly Ruth.
Fastest Man on the Mountain Awards went to Jeff and Todd and Fastest Woman on the Mountain Honors to Carolyn McMillen for being the speediest skiers in their age brackets.
For the first time in 25 years our race team brought The Florida Cup home to Orlando – Gold Medals for Jeff, Todd, Zbigniew, Jackie, Meloni and Debbie Ashworth. Those race practice sessions paid off – we went to Steamboat as a team and came back with the Gold.
More Heavy Metal honors went to Jeff Szarzanowtiz and Chuck Valence for their winning “P” themed costume – Bret Michaels and Poison.
Big Thank You to all that attended, great group of people, great week of skiing.

Happy Hour Tour
of Alfond Inn Artwork
Tuesday, February 7th
5:00pm - 8:00pm
If you have been to The Alfond Inn you can't miss their bright and eclectic Art Collection. The upscale Winter Park hotel conducts Happy Hour tours on the first Wednesday of every month. The evening soirees will let patrons take advantage of the hotel bar's happy-hour deals before or after the docent-led trips through the gallery, because art often goes well with a drink, too. The tour is free, drinks are on your own.
You do not need to be a club member to attend this event, feel free to invite a friend to come along!

Silver Spurs Rodeo
at Osceola Heritage Park /
Silver Spurs Arena
Saturday, February 17th
7:00pm - 10:00pm
tickets $15
Come and join members of the Orlando Ski and Travel Club at one of Osceola County’s longest and most treasured traditions is the Silver Spurs Rodeo! This event features all seven traditional rodeo events: bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie down roping, and barrel racing. In between all the rodeo action, there will be an act by the rodeo clown and our famous and fast Silver Spurs Quadrille team who perform a square dance on horseback. A crowd favorite, and beloved Silver Spurs tradition, during the half way mark of our performance, we invite children (between the ages of 6 to 10) to participate in our Calf Scramble where they come onto the dirt and chase a calf’s tail for a $5 prize. Well known as one of the best indoor rodeos of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), the Silver Spurs Rodeo in February draws contestants from all over the nation, many national champions, to compete for $100,000 in prize money.
It is open seating so we need to get there early for good seats for the group. We will meet for eats/drinks first and then go together. If you are eating try to be at Fat Boys BBQ (2912 13th St, St Cloud, FL 34769) by 5:30 pm, would like to get to arena by 7pm.
