President's Message

Wow, another year, another HUGE turnout for Annual Trip Kick Off Event! It was a great success with many of you signing up for trips, the room was FULL of great positive energy! It’s hard to think SNOW when it’s almost 100 degrees outside, but you Orlando skiers/boarders were ready to think WINTER trips!

I was thrilled with our NUMEROUS great door prizes, sponsored by YOUR club, plus donations from The Tap Room, Peter Glenn and Winter Club Ski. Next year, we’ll break it up a little so the drawing doesn’t take so much time away from your visiting! Thank you to our donors!

Congrats to the winners of the OSTC drawing of 4 - $200 Trip Credits:

Weegie Henry-Heavenly, Chuck Valence-Steamboat & Debra Kost – Vail

Please note there was a 4th winner with initials “SK”, if it’s you, please contact your trip leader.

And, congrats to the winners of the 4 - $50 Trip Credits:

            Jeff Szarzanowicz-Steamboat, Pat Karr-SB, Richard Vogel-SB, Richard Zywica-Heavenly

Thanks also to, Marcie Hawks and Laurie Vest, for donating $100 Trip Credit to Steamboat, won by Reni Potter-Wood and $100 Trip Credit to Heavenly, won by Rich Lovette.

If you are not signed up yet….do so NOW at space is limited with several trips sold out!

Our annual early season HOLIDAY trip, this year to Vail still has a few spaces (always a beautiful, festive time to be in Vail, typically with new fresh snow). Next is FSC late January trip to Steamboat (sold out, yet accepting wait list). Then Heavenly (ski in two states, sleep Heavenly) for early February (tons of skiing and nightlife) with a few spaces open. Next, for March, we have our International trip to Spain (added more spaces, sign up quick, selling fast). Followed by the annual Magical Mindy tour, this year to Jackson Hole. And closing our ski/board season with a SPRING BREAK trip to Keystone, great for families or singles. Ski two mountains with large beginner area, long blue cruisers or steep with bumps, Keystone has something for every ability! Another great season of ski/board trips for OSTC!

Now, for our Adventure Travel, next is a trip to Vegas in late October for partying and hiking! It should be PURRfect weather with quite diverse activities planned from a Comedy Show, to touring Hoover Dam, hiking Mt Charleston & Red Rocks, then Valley of Fire! Sign up QUICK!

We’ve completed THREE very successful summer Adventure Trips! First was Schooner sailing trip in Maine; next whitewater rafting trip on the Ocoee in Tennessee, followed by a second on Chattooga River in North Georgia. For one we stayed in quaint cabins in the woods, for the other ALL 26 of us stayed in one house, the Mansion! On both trips, we ate like Kings & Queens, we played hard & exercised hard, all while experiencing great comradery!

Locally, we’ve also been very busy with our most recent event being Bioluminescence Kayaking in the Indian River at night! Our guide said it was the BRIGHTEST she’d ever seen it! Fabulous!

Watch for announcement of a North Central Florida Kayaking Adventure weekend Nov 10-12th, with Lars Anderson of Adventure Outpost  Florida historian & Springs expert. We’ll be kayaking the Ichetucknee Springs/River, staying Friday & Saturday night in High Springs, partying at the Great Outdoors patio with live music and a BBQ at Kat’s Kabin (yours truly). Just a little over 2 hours north of Orlando!

Join us at WP Ale House for our September Social. At the August Social many Trip Leaders and Board were on the Georgia rafting trip; yet, we’ll all be at the September social! We’ll have Trip Fliers and computers available for sign ups. See you then!        Kathryn

Rafting Party Trip to Blue Ridge Mountains and Savannah, GA

26 of Orlando Ski and Travel Club members enjoyed 5 wonderful days together covering 1,500 miles of Florida and Georgia. We rented 3 large vans and stayed in a Mansion in the Woods; yes we all stayed in the same house together. The setting was magnificent. Geese walking across the backyard honking in the mornings while local fisherman stood in the river behind the house looking for their morning catch. We partied throughout the Mansion playing games, laughing, marshmallows roasting over bon-fires and just plain having a blast recovering or getting ready for the next hours of adventure. Kayaking, White Water Rafting, Hiking the Appalachian Trail, Strolling the Town of Blue Ridge, wonderful meals, Ghost Pub Tour in Savannah, Ferry ride to a Seafood Adventure in Jacksonville. The last moments of the trip included an impromptu 4x4 Jeep adventure in Steve’s front Lawn. All participated and left with muddy clothes, feet, and lifelong stories. Don’t miss next year’s rafting adventure!
