 April 2017

President's Message

Well… sad but true …another great OSC ski season has come to an end! Big Sky wrapped up last Saturday, closing Orlando’s ski season. Belly laughs, happy memories between longtime friends; new friends inducted into the Big Sky community; snowmen built by our youngster and fun was had by all!

Orlando Ski Club ran six very successful trips this season! Thanks to all the volunteers who made this happen from the Travel Committee for putting the trips packages together; to all the Trip Leaders for handling financials, après planning and ensuring a good time for all; to the Board for all general oversight and most of all to YOU, our members for supporting YOUR club!

Planning is under way for 2017-18 ski season! We need NEW volunteers with NEW ideas to step forward to assist and become Trip Leaders. Yes, it’s a commitment; yet, the reward of many happy trippers makes it all worth it! There may also be trip discount benefits for Trip Leaders. Please fill out an application to become a Trip Leader at:

Just because the snow is melting doesn’t mean OSC takes a break. Now we start our rafting, hiking, biking, sailing and a bit of gambling travel events! In addition to skiing, we offer a variety of travel opportunities, plus local events to keep the comradery going year round! Sign up at:

Have you noticed a change with YOUR club??? With the increase in our offerings, OSC Board has decided to propose a revamped club name to more accurately describe WHO we are! We are MORE than just a Ski Club! At the May Social, we will ask YOU, our members, to vote to change our official name to Orlando Ski and Travel Club.

Also at the May Social, we elect new officers. I remind everyone OSC is 100% volunteer –driven.  We need your involvement! Please give time to trip leadership, club leadership or serve on a committee! There are lots of ways you can help support YOUR club! Please contact me directly at  for details. There may be trip discounts for Officers and Directors. Find application forms for Elected Officers at And, for Appointed Director positions at:

Stay tuned for a new location for the May 10th Social. We promise to keep the biz portion brief but we need a big turnout to vote on Officer Elections and Club name change!

On Saturday, April 22nd at 9:00 a.m., please join the Orlando Snow Chasers as we walk for “Paws for Peace” at Blue Jacket Park. It’s an opportunity get some exercise, be with your friends and donate to a great cause, bringing awareness to domestic abuse victims, their families AND their pets ! Bring your 4 legged friends too! We'll meet afterwards for breakfast nearby. Our team goal is $1000. Spread the word. Sign up or donate TODAY!

Our April 12th Social will remain at WP Ale House, come share those TRIPLE BLACK diamond tales; or, the Volkswagen size moguls you concurred; or, to brag about how you broke the record for skiing the most vertical feet in one day! See you there!

OSC Trip to Japan
with John Smith

WOW, what a trip…..23 Orlando ski club members enjoyed 10 fabulous days in Japan, visiting Kyoto, the Imperial City, Niseko, a ski mecca known for its powder and then Tokyo. This was a unique destination with incredible scenery and we were immersed in the Japanese culture. This included lots of sushi, tours of temples and shrines and incredible views of Mt. Yotei while immersed in the thermal waters of an onsen, a truly pleasurable experience. And, oh yes, we skied while there,  John

OSC Trip to Big Sky
with  Mindy & Moose

Well, they did it again!! Pulled off another "Magical" trip to
Big Sky Montana

In keeping with our Moose and Magical Mindy trip traditions, those that ski the peak the first time are given t-shirts from those on the trip that have skied the peak in prior years. This year Jessica Yahn, David Yahn, Mike Piatek and not pictured Tom Dunkle

And this brings a close to one of the "snowiest" OSC ski/snowboarding years.
