President's Message

If you have been watching (and I know you have), you have seen the Orlando Ski Club’s Trip Summary on our web site for the upcoming 2015-16 SEASON SKI TRIP SUMMARY Your Trip Leaders are not relaxing waiting for the OSC Trip Kick-off Event, August 23rd, 3pm-5pm at Dubsdread Golf Club. They have been busy completing the trip flyers, finding out all sorts of helpful information about the resorts, places to eat, extra-curricular activities, etc., etc., etc. They have been in contact with their respective resort’s representatives to get trail maps, ski school info, equipment rental information, etc., etc. etc.  Your Trip Leaders will put in so much time, just to make sure club members have the best possible experience on their trip. Be assured, every trip this year is going to be a GREAT TRIP to a wonderful location. (it is always so hard to decide which trip to go on!!!)

Many of you have already contacted a specific Trip Leader for the ski trip in which you have interest. In the last newsletter, I informed you about the need to sign up for the Vail Ski Trip ASAP, and you heard me. Trip Leader, Steve Clark, ( has noted much interest in this Dec. 10-14 ski trip. All of the OSC Ski Trips are on a first come – first served basis. The Club’s Travel Committee attempts to estimate how much interest there will be for each ski trip. We usually do a pretty good job estimating correctly. However, there is always one ski trip that gets more interest than previously estimated. The Club then does some scrambling to find additional air seats (there is a saying, “Air is a 3-letter word that should be a 4-letter word”). If at all possible, the Club is going to do whatever is feasible to get you on the trip of your choice.

Within last month’s newsletter, I asked for volunteers to help the Club by taking over a few of the various duties of the Club’s Superwoman (Shelley Daniel), which she has been doing for several years. I am so grateful for the response I received from so many of you. So many, I had to turn a few of you down. I am pleased to announce the Club’s new Membership DirectorBetsy Miller and the new Newsletter EditorDavid Pugh. Thank you for volunteering!

The last item to mention in this newsletter is that the Club also does non-ski activities. It is a tradition for the Club to go bowling in August, just to get out of the Florida heat. This year, the Bowling Event occurs on August 9th, 3 PM - 5 PM, at the Aloma Bowl (event link: 2015 OSC Annual Bowling Event). Yours truly, the Snow Dog, is again organizing the event. The Club’s 2nd VP of Year Round Activities, Ronda Ulmer ( is gathering her Committee to start planning some exciting activities. If you are interested in helping Rhonda in planning, or have an idea about an event, please contact her. Rhonda, and the Club, will certainly appreciate your help.

The Club had a great turnout at last month’s social. The Club will again be having its monthly Social at Miller’s Ale House in Winter Park (corner of Lee Rd & 17/92) July 8th, 6pm-8pm. I unfortunately will be driving back from South Florida at that time. However, THERE WILL BE many of your fellow club members attending this social. I hope you can make it!!!

Until then...

Many Happy Dreams of Gently Falling Snowflakes and Groomed Slopes...

Bob Mackey, President (a/k/a Snow Dog)
