January 2016

Presidents Message

Hello Fellow Skiers,

Well, the Holiday Season is finally over. It is always a busy time of year. So busy, we barely have enough time to get everything done, or even take some time off to rest. I hope you had a Merry Christmas, or Happy Hanukah, or maybe just celebrating the Winter Solstice (for that Druid in you), and you recovered from the New Year’s Eve festivities.

Over the holidays, I have been getting excited just reading about all the snow falling out west. Have you also been watching the snow reports at your favorite resort? There are rumors that our Club participants on the trip to Vail had wonderful time. I have yet to hear any stories from the trip. You can bet there are more than a few good stories! (What happens in Vail, does not need to stay in Vail ;-)

You and I can hear these stories at the Club’s January 13th Social, 6pm – 8pm. The Club is doing something different this month. The Club is going to hold the January Social at WinterClub (WCISS) Indoor Ski & Snowboard, 2950 Aloma Ave., Winter Park, FL 32792, (407) 618-1123 (located at the corner of Ranger and Aloma, which is just west of the Semoran-436/Aloma intersection). Since WCISS does not have a liquor license, and OSC knows a few of you like to have a social beverage while you socialize, the Club will have beer, wine, sodas, bottle water and a few snacks for you, at no charge. Due to the free beverages, this Social will be for “Members Only!”Also, if you plan to try the indoor equipment, the Club requests NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE until you are off the equipment.

As a benefit to OSC members, you will have the opportunity to win a WCISS 1-hour lesson (Group Lesson). The Club will be giving away ten (10) 1-hour lessons at this Social as door prizes.

If you want to know a little more about WCISS, please check out their website (http://www.winterclubski.com/ ) and the article in the Winter Park-Maitland Observer: http://www.wpmobserver.com/news/2015/dec/23/winterclub-brings-indoor-skiing-winter-park/

I am going to keep this January’s President Message sort this month. Hope to see you at the January OSC Social.

 Until then,

Wishing You Many Happy Dreams of Gently Falling Snowflakes, and Groomed Slopes with Christmas Lights!

Bob “Snow Dog” Mackey

President

Winter Club Ski Indoor Skiing & Snowboarding

2950 Aloma ave. Winter Park, FL 32792

OK, 1 trip down, 5 to go!!

Steve Clark lead OSC's first ski trip to Vail last month. Know there was snow because I was there a couple of days before OSC arrived. China Bowl and BlueSky Basin opened my last day.

Up next to start 2016 off Debbie Ashworth will lead us to Whistler/Blackcomb, BC. This is also a Florida Ski Council trip so will be extra fun. They have received over 16 feet of snow so far!! So start packing only 19 days till take off.

Then February 6th, Terri-Lynn will guide OSC members to the ever popular Snowmass Colorado. True ski in/ski out at the Top of the Village condos.

Also in February (20th), Shelley Daniel leads another OSC/FSC trip to ski a volcano, Mt Bachelor, Oregon.

March starts off on a bang with Kathryn Hardage taking OSC members across the big pond to Zell am See, Austria. Again this is a FSC trip so there will be plenty of Floridians to ski and party with.

Miz Moosie (Mindy Boehm) closes out March at Big Sky, Montana.

All these trips are sold out but you can always check with the trip leader and go on the waiting list.  So if you are not a OSC member, or waited to late to sign up for these great ski trips, join today and sign up early next year.
